Hitachi Cable Develops New Authentication & Quarantine Solution Using Apresia Authentication Switches
-Blocks Unguarded Terminals to Prevent Infection-
Hitachi Cable, Ltd. has released a new authentication & quarantine solution that blocks unregistered and unguarded terminals from accessing in-house networks. This solution was developed based on integrating our Apresia (*1) authentication switch (*2) with the RegistGate(R) (*3) authentication software provided by NSI Co., Ltd. (Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Taro Ohuchi).
This latest addition to our varied line of Apresia-based authentication & quarantine solutions allows you to build a highly secure network through the combination of Apresia and NSI's RegistGate(R) for user, hardware, and software authentication.
When a terminal attempts to access an in-house network, it will first be connected to the Apresia switch, which performs ID- and password-based user authentication. The terminal is then connected to a RegistGate(R) server for hardware authentication. RegistGate(R) checks the terminal's unique identifying information to determine whether access is authorized. Since the terminal's unique identifying information has been encrypted to create an authentication key, spoofing to access the network using an unauthorized terminal is not possible. Software authentication is performed next: the terminal is checked to confirm that antivirus and other programs specified by the company are installed; network access is blocked if the terminal is determined to be vulnerable to infection.
Since terminals are only allowed to access your in-house network after these three authentication steps, you can be sure that your network will remain secure. RegistGate(R) can also be used to authenticate terminals that connect to the network via the Internet, so both internal and external access can be authenticated in the same manner. Moreover, this solution is designed for easy introduction and operation: there is no need for dedicated software for terminals, as authentication status can be checked using standard Web browsers.
The sales price of RegistGate(R) is 4 million yen for 1,000 users (not including Apresia). Apresia switches are available through our sales partners.
We intend to increase our market share in Ethernet (*4) switches for telecommunications carriers and business customers using the distribution channels of our Apresia sales partners. Our sales target for Apresia products for this fiscal year is 8 billion yen.
