Hitachi Cable Develops New Quarantine LAN System Using Apresia Authentication Switches
-Updates antivirus definition files at the time of network access in combination with F-Secure Quarantine Controller-

We have been offering various authentication & quarantine solutions with the use of our Apresia (*1) authentication switches (*2), and have recently released a quarantine LAN system that allows client terminals to keep their antivirus definition files updated through network access. The system was developed by interfacing Apresia and ''F-Secure Quarantine Controller,'' which is provided by Nihon F-Secure Corporation (in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture; President: Hiroshi Watanabe).

This quarantine LAN system works as follows. First, antivirus software ''F-Secure Antivirus Client Security'' is installed onto client terminals. Then, when a terminal makes access to the in-house network, Apresia will connect the terminal to a server where F-Secure Quarantine Controller has been installed. This server will check the terminal's antivirus definition file and update it automatically if not up to date. This allows the definition file to be updated without a manual operation by the user. Hence, only a terminal with an updated definition file can have access to the network.

A single Apresia switch can authenticate up to 300 users. It can individually check terminals that are connected through a nonintelligent hub or wireless LAN access point within the network. Therefore, if you buy the F-Secure Quarantine Controller, the necessary number of F-Secure Antivirus Client Security licenses, and Apresia, you will be able to introduce this system in a cost-effective manner without the need to make major changes to the existing network structure.

The sales price of the F-Secure Quarantine Controller is 2 million yen per server (*3) regardless of the number of clients. F-Secure Quarantine Controller, F-Secure Antivirus Client Security, and Apresia are available through their respective sales partners.

By adding value of various authentication & quarantine solutions to Apresia and utilizing distribution channels of our Apresia sales partners, we intend to increase our market share in Ethernet (*4) switches for telecommunications carriers and enterprise customers. Our sales target for Apresia products for the fiscal year 2005 is 8 billion yen.
