PFU Ltd. (Tokyo Head Office: Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture; President: Yuji Hirose; hereinafter "PFU") and Hitachi Cable, Ltd. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Norio Sato; hereinafter "Hitachi Cable") hereby announce that the two companies have confirmed synchronized operation of PFU's iNetSec(R) Inspection Center quarantine software and Hitachi Cable's Apresia(R) network authentication switch, and formed a cooperative system for the provision of a quarantine network solution to enterprises and universities.

PFU and Hitachi Cable have agreed to participate in each other's partner program (*note 1) for iNetSec(R) Inspection Center and Apresia(R) in order to develop a quarantine network solution and conduct joint promotion of the solution. The solution will be provided to customers by means of SI/NI vendors that handle the products of both companies.

Quarantine network solution achieved by interlinkage of iNetSec(R) and Apresia(R)

A quarantine network that takes advantage of the interlinked operation of iNetSec(R) Inspection Center and Apresia(R) offers high security, particularly at points close to the network edge. The interlinked operation of the two products has been achieved by connecting the Apresia(R) NA (Network Authentication), a unique authentication system of the Apresia, as the "gateway system", which is the network authentication method employed by iNetSec(R) Inspection Center. This enables the construction of a quarantine network system capable of operating without the need for the installation of any special software in client PCs, thus providing a system that is highly adaptive to users' existing network environments and operating conditions.

By incorporating this solution, corporations and universities can enhance their network security without causing any additional burden on the network administrators or users.

Outline of iNetSec(R) Inspection Center

iNetSec(R) Inspection Center is a quarantine network software product manufactured by PFU. It offers an array of quarantine policies necessary for the security control of client PCs, a short PC quarantine time to minimize stress on the users, and a quarantine dictionary distribution service (*note 2) that relieves the operation administrators from the burden of maintaining the security policies up-to-date. Due to these notable features, the iNetSec(R) Inspection Center is used by many businesses and universities.

Furthermore, this software is compatible with three network authentication systems-the gateway system, IEEE802.1X authentication system, and Cisco NAC system-to enable the construction of the most suitable system to match each customer's specific network environment and operating conditions.

Outline of Apresia(R)

Apresia(R) is Hitachi Cable's intelligent L2/L3 switching hub. As an authentication switch, it supports the IEEE802.1X international standard and is also equipped with the Apresia(R) NA, a unique authentication system of the Apresia(R); thus, it is capable of providing the network authentication function in an environment containing a mixture of terminals in a cascade environment consisting of island switches and wireless LAN access points, terminals with a fixed IP address, and DHCP terminals. Therefore, Apresia(R) can adapt flexibly to each customer's existing network configuration and is easy to install.

Quarantine dictionary distribution service This service provides the latest quarantine dictionary (security patches, anti-virus software pattern information) to operation administrators as soon as they become available. The quarantine dictionary is automatically updated by the system so the operation administrators do not need to perform any updating procedures.
