Hitachi Cable confirms the compatibility of the Apresia Authentication Switch and the EQWAC Quarantine System for Apresia developed by a partnership of DAIKIN INDUSTRIES, LTD. and Hidec Systems Co., Ltd.

Hitachi Cable, Ltd. (Hitachi Cable, hereafter), Hidec Systems Co., Ltd., (Headquarters: Hitachi-shi, Ibaraki Pref.; President: Hiroshi Kikuchihara; Hidec Systems hereafter), and DAIKIN INDUSTRIES, LTD. (Headquarters: Osaka-shi, Osaka Pref.; President and COO: Yukiyoshi Okano; DAIKIN INDUSTRIES hereafter) have confirmed the compatibility of Hitachi Cable's Apresia Authentication Switch (*1) and the EQWAC Quarantine System for Apresia developed by a partnership of Hidec Systems and DAIKIN INDUSTRIES. Hidec Systems is a Hitachi Cable subsidiary active in the areas of design, construction, and maintenance of information network systems and software development. The combination of Apresia and EQWAC Quarantine System for Apresia enhances Hitachi Cable's line of PC quarantine LAN solutions for protecting corporate networks against virus infections originating from notebook and other PCs carried into company sites. Hidec Systems and DAIKIN INDUSTRIES has also joined the EnSEC (*2) Apresia security-alliance partner program promoted by Hitachi Cable.

Recent years have seen growing awareness of security issues related to corporate information network. Security measures need to protect networks not just from attacks originating from outside corporate networks, but from within, a domain traditionally considered safe. Such security risks include virus infections arising from the connection of PCs with inadequate security measures to networks, leakage of information by unauthorized users, and inappropriate use of networks.

Hitachi Cable provides authentication services based on IEEE 802.1X (*3), the international standard, and PC quarantine LAN solutions based on Apresia NA (Network Authentication), a unique authentication function of the Apresia. To make Apresia-based PC quarantine LAN solutions available to a wider range of clients, Hitachi Cable is currently seeking to ensure compatibility between Apresia and quarantine systems and authentication software and devices provided by various manufacturers, and meet diverse demands of clients.

Hitachi Cable, Hidec Systems, and DAIKIN INDUSTRIES recently confirmed the compatibility of the Apresia Ethernet Switch (*4) with the EQWAC Quarantine System for Apresia developed in partnership by Hidec Systems and DAIKIN INDUSTRIES.

The EQWAC Quarantine System for Apresia adds the EQWAC integrated IT resource management system developed and sold by DAIKIN INDUSTRIES with PC quarantine functions. The combination of Apresia and EQWAC Quarantine System for Apresia prevents access to corporate network by terminals not registered in the EQWAC IT resource management file or PCs under maintenance. The combined system also assesses the status of security patches (*5) or antiviral software on client PCs. The combination of Apresia and the EQWAC Quarantine System for Apresia makes it possible to build a PC quarantine LAN system that safeguards networks from access by any PCs that fail to meet security policy requirements.

The EQWAC Quarantine System for Apresia implements PC quarantine solutions without requiring users to install special software on client PCs. It also reduces network administrative loads through serviceable functions such as a quarantine ON/OFF switching function for each authentication item and an automatic quarantine recording function for recording the quarantine verification results to the server.

Hitachi Cable will continue to work with its EnSEC partners to enhance its security solutions product lines and to take advantage of sales routes through its Apresia sales partners. It also plans to augment its shares of the Ethernet switch market for enterprises and service providers. Hidec Systems will seek to provide services that meet client needs, taking advantage of expertise in information network systems (e.g., constructing LAN servers) and security systems (e.g., PC quarantine LAN solutions) accumulated in its systems integration efforts.
