Hitachi Cable develops "Apresia13000-48X" Box-type Layer-3 Ethernet Switch with 10-Gbit uplink ports
Hitachi Cable, Ltd. recently announced the development of "Apresia13000-48X" Box-type Layer-3 Switch for enterprise, a new version of the Apresia Ethernet Switch (*1, *2) equipped with 10-Gbit Ethernet uplink ports to support high-capacity data communications. Sales are to begin July 1, 2006.
Recent years have seen expanding use of applications that handle video and audio data, growth in numbers of PCs supporting Gigabit Ethernet, and the emergence of networks that integrate data on servers rather than storing data locally to improve protection of personal information. In response to growing demand for reliable network switches that support high-capacity data communications and high network security, Hitachi Cable has developed the Apresia4000 Ethernet Switch series. Apresia4000 products support Gigabit Ethernet on all ports, provide security measures based on unique user authentication functions, and boast various functions for maintaining network stability. Due to high customer demand for Apresia4000 products, it has become necessary to add even higher-capacity devices to the series.
The Apresia13000-48X recently developed by Hitachi Cable offers two uplink XENPAK ports supporting 10GBASE-R (10-Gbit Ethernet), 8 SFP ports supporting 1000BASE-X, and 44 ports supporting 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX/1000BASE-T. The Apresia13000-48X is a box-type switch designed for installation on a 1-U chassis (4.5 cm high; suitable for mounting on 19-inch rack). The Apresia13000-48X runs "AEOS: Apresia Extended Operating System," (*3) which has won high regard for ease of maintenance and operability. The Apresia13000-48X can be used as a server integration switch for handling high-capacity data as well as a core switch in small- to mid-sized networks.
In the future, we plan to provide an Apresia13000-48X that offers Apresia NA (Network Authentication), Hitachi Cable's unique network authentication function, in addition to incorporating functions to help maintain network stability, including bandwidth control, QoS guarantees, packet filtering, and MMRP. (*4)
The addition of the Apresia13000-48X 10-Gbit Ethernet Switch to the Apresia series for enterprise allows us to provide Ethernet Switches for networks of various scales, from small to medium to large.
By expanding the Apresia series line, Hitachi Cable intends to raise its profile in the Ethernet Switch market and further increase its share of the Ethernet switch market for enterprises and communication carriers. We expect sales of the Apresia series to reach 11 billion yen in Fiscal 2006.
