Hitachi Cable reinforces its line of Apresia Ethernet Switch with products that meet RoHS Directive requirements
Hitachi Cable, Ltd. announced the completion of updates to eight models of the Apresia (*2) 2000/3000 Ethernet (*1) Switch series to comply with the European Union (EU) RoHS Directive (*3) .
Increasingly stringent environmental requirements in recent years have led to a growing movement to bar or restrict use of specific hazardous substances in products. In particular, EU has issued the RoHS Directive to restrict use of six substances in products.
Hitachi Cable Group continues to regard the corporate social responsibility (CSR), encompassing environmental protection, as the backbone of its business activities and has promoted it within the Group as a whole. We established a new green procurement standard in July 2004 to respond to growing restrictions on specific hazardous substances. We have compiled a database of the chemical substances found in procured materials and parts and Hitachi Cable Group products, which we have used to improve the reliability of the management of contained chemical substances and to support the selection of environmentally appropriate materials and parts in developing new products.
We have already completed updating part of our product range to meet the requirements of the RoHS Directive. These products include electronic wires and wiring materials incorporated into electronic devices exported to the EU, including Flexible Flat Cables (FFC) and micro coaxial cables; film antennas for wireless LANs; magnet wires; TABs and lead frames, which are semiconductor package materials; and paper feed rollers for printers.
Given these conditions, Hitachi Cable has reviewed the components of its Apresia 2000/3000 Ethernet Switch series to replace them with environmentally appropriate alternatives. We will add products that comply with the RoHS Directive to the series and release them on October 1.
Our Apresia 2000/3000 switches are primarily used in corporate and university networks as authentication switches for building PC quarantine LAN systems that prevent the networks from unauthorized access and virus infections.
We recently completed updating the eight primary models of the Apresia 2000/3000 series to meet RoHS Directive requirements. (See the list of Apresia products that comply with the RoHS Directive.) We intend to continue expanding our line of Apresia series to include products that meet RoHS Directive requirements.
Hitachi Cable Group has responded to the RoHS Directive mainly in the field of wires and cables and in the field of sophisticated materials. In the future, we plan to promote movement in the field of information network products and to expand our product line to include other environmentally-friendly products.

Five models, the Apresia 2124-SS2, Apresia 2124GT2, Apresia 2124GT-SS2, Apresia 3124GT2, and Apresia 3124GT-HR2, have been modified to a depth of 252 mm from a depth of 342 mm for the existing model. The height and width remain the same.
