Solution Edge L2 Switch

Q: Does using Access-List degrade performance?

A: The Packet-Filter (Access-List) is processed by hardware in all Apresia series products, so no performance degradation results.

Q: Is mirroring supported?

A: Yes. Apresia supports two types of mirroring for flexibility: port-based and ACL-based. Select whichever is more suitable.

Q: Is QoS supported?

A: Yes.

Q: What is the trigger for packet classification based on Link Aggregation?

A: Packets are classified based on the source and destination MAC addresses.

Q: Is it possible to use Link Aggregation and STP simultaneously?

A: Yes.

Q: Do the gigabit ports support port redundancy?

A: Yes.

Q: Is it preferable to avoid using the default VLAN (vlan1)?

A: No. No particular restrictions apply here.

Q: Is the MAC address filtering function supported for each port?

A: Yes.

Full-L3 switch

Q: Is it possible to permit one-way communications using the Access-List?

A: Yes.

Q: Will exercising bandwidth control degrade performance?

A: The QoS is processed by hardware in all Apresia series products, so no performance degradation will result.

Q: Is it possible to use MMRP and OSPF simultaneously?

A: Yes.

Q: Is it possible to use OSPF/RIPv1,2 and VRRP simultaneously?

A: Yes.

Q: Are multiple OSPF areas supported? Are stab areas and NSSA supported?

A: Yes. Standard OSPF functions are generally supported.

Q: Do the Apresia 3124GT's gigabit ports support coexisting 1000BASE-T ports and 1000BASE-X ports?

A: Yes. Up to two of the two 1000BASE-T ports and two 1000BASE-X ports can be used simultaneously.

Q: Are two or more telnet sessions supported?

A: Yes. Up to eight simultaneous sessions are supported.

Q: Is ECMP (Equal Cost Multi Path) load distribution supported?

A: Yes. ECMP is supported by OSPF and Static Route.

Industrial L2/L3 Switch

Q: Does the feature set differ from the Full-L3 Switches?

A: No. They support the same functions as Full-L3 Switches.

Q: Is it possible to use the 3108FG's 100BASE-FX ports and gigabit ports simultaneously?

A: Yes. Two 100BASE-FX ports and two gigabit ports may be used simultaneously.

Q: Does 3108FG support vertical mounting?

A: Yes.

Q: You say the switches are heat-resistant. Is there any way of ascertaining temperatures if temperatures rise?

A: An Industrial L2/L3 Switch can issue two stages of warning traps (Caution and Alert) to the management server.

Network Authentication

Q: Is it possible to mix Web-based authentication, MAC-based authentication, and 802.1X authentication on a single Apresia switch?

A: Yes. You can specify different authentication methods for each port.

Q: Is MAC address authentication possible? If so, how are MAC addresses managed?

A: Yes. MAC address authentication is possible, and all MAC addresses are managed on the RADIUS server. When the Apresia receives a packet from the terminal, it automatically sends the packet to the RADIUS server and controls communications based on the assessed availability of authentication granted.

Q: How many terminals can a single Apresia switch authenticate?

A: The number of terminals for which Apresia can hold authentication states is 300 per port and 300 per switch. However, we recommend using 100 or fewer terminals.

Q: When L2 switches and wireless LAN access points are cascaded under Apresia, can Apresia identify each terminal and control authentication?

A: Yes. Even when the authentication process is completed for the first terminal and communications are permitted, other terminals cannot communicate until they are granted their own authentication.

Q: When using Web-based authentication, can one authenticate the MAC address in addition to the user ID and password?

A: Yes. Two patterns of authentication are available. A unique MAC address may be registered for a user ID, or authentication may be provided for an arbitrary combination of registered user IDs and MAC addresses.

Q: Is a special firmware or license required to use compatible products from EnSEC Partners?

A; No. Simply adjust the Apresia settings to introduce compatible products.
